Everything that
happens in nature affects the life of human knowingly or
unknowingly. The cosmic rays from the sun, moon and other planets
also have an effect on human body.
Out of the eight
directions the North and East have special importance. The sun rises
from the East, moves towards the North and sets in the West. The
early morning rays are auspicious and must fall on the land we live
on. These rays, to a great extent are absorbed by water; therefore
it is beneficial to have wells and underground water tanks in the
North-East direction. There should be no constructions in this
direction since the auspicious rays would be obstructed. This corner
of the plot should be depressed either naturally or
artificially. The rays reaching earth after noon are harmful,
hence the South-West portion should be covered and there should not
be any water-tanks or wells in this direction. The wall in this
corner should be taller and thicker than the walls of all the other
parts of the house and the floor also should be raised. This corner
should be a perfect 90 degrees. According to Vaastushastra; each
direction has its own importance and individual effect on human
being: East belongs to 'Lord Indra'. He blesses with
prosperity and happiness. South belongs to 'Lord Yama'. He
is the God of justice and death. West belongs to 'Lord
Varuna'. He is the God of rain water. North belongs to
'Lord Kuber'. His blessings give wealth and
prosperity. South-East is the intermediate direction
between South and East and the principle authority of this direction
is 'Agni' (Fire). South-West is ruled by 'Nairuti'; a
demoness. This corner of the house not be used for auspicious
ceremonies. North-East is the holy corner of the house. It
is ideal for water storage. North-West is the direction of
the God of 'Vayu' (Wind), hence one should not build structures or
plant tall trees in this
direction. |
